On this Veteran's Day 2024 I am thinking about my four uncles who served this country during World War II - along with all those who have answered the call to protect our freedom.
More than 80 years ago this country came knocking on the doors of these guys and asked them to go out and save the world.
Literally save the world...
They were bakers, mechanics, teachers, stone masons and steel workers...
And these guys did it.
They set aside their tools, their pencils, and their lives and stood up and said "OK, tell us where to go and what to do"
I mean these guys actually went out and saved the world...
And one of the things that I find amazing each time I met someone like one of my uncles or another member of that generation is how humble and modest these guys were.
You would never know that they - SAVED THE WORLD.
All these guys really wanted to do was finish the job and get back home.
I used to joke about my uncles - that the only time they ever left their home towns was for funerals and World Wars - and that if they could have won the war in a day - they would have been home for dinner.
Sadly, a lot of them - including my Uncle Mickey - never made it home for dinner and we are all indebted to their sacrifice.
Thank you to all who have served.
